Social media is a hot topic these days. Especially if you’re an independent musician or running a small business. There are courses and ads out there that promise to transform your strategy and be the answer to all of your woes. And then there are bots that you can pay just a tiny fee for & gain thousands of followers. Who wouldn’t want that?!
But social media isn’t just about having pretty pictures that look cohesive or a larger number of followers than your competitors. What’s the point in all that if you aren’t seeing an increase in sales or fans from it?
The best thing you can do for your social media strategy is to focus on what it should be all about in the first place: being social! Social media became wildly popular because of the ease of making connections. First with friends spread across the world and then when brands and public figures. But many of us have forgotten about that aspect in search of what’s pretty or what gets us more followers the fastest.
In order to see returns, you need to be making connections and building relationships. That doesn’t mean you have to share every intimate detail of your life. But it does mean you should be taking the time to engage with people on your pages. Respond to their questions. Thank them for their compliments. Ask for their opinions. Make some time this week to truly engage with your audience & see what kind of a difference it can make!
